1、Desertification--A growing problem! Desertification,the name for what happens when farmable land is turned into destert,is a growing world problem.The United Nations and its member continues are working hard to combat desertification. The United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification(UNCCD)was estblished in 1994.China joined the convention in 1997 and has taken many steps to stop the process of desertification,including encouraging farmers to builtd fences(which stop wind from blowing the dirt away),and providing money for people in dry areas to plant more trees and bushes.This is one of the cheapest and most effective ways of decreasing ***.At the moment,China is planting a "Green hall"of plants and bushes in the north-west part of the country that could grow even longer than the Great Wall!China is also spending money trying to find underground water and is researching ways to get it to the surface. There is also another resource in the fight against desertification,in the form of the China National Desertification Monitoring Centre(CNDMC).This centre was set up in 1996 and is stocked with modern technical equipment and computers for environment research. 觉得太长可以适当删减。
